Back in 2001, Spalding revolutionised the sporting world, being the first company to introduce inflated sports balls with a built-in Micro Pump. This innovation eliminated the need for a separate pump and needle.

The engineers at Spalding completely redesigned the way a basketball is built. Counterbalance patches were engineered into the bladder, to balance the ball so it will not wobble and ensure true ball flight. To offset any added weight, lighter, yet extremely durable rubber compounds were utilised to keep the weight the same as any other basketball. The Spalding INFUSION patented technology has been perfected so that the only time you will know there is a pump inside is when you will need it.

The Spalding INFUSION basketball meets all of the NBA’s stringent performance standards. Each ball is precision engineered so that the Built-in Micro Pump does not affect balance, weight, rebound, size or overall playability of this ball versus a traditional basketball.

In 2003, the technology was modified further with the introduction of a Dual-Action Micro Pump. And then in 2005, Spalding launched INFUSION3- a re-designed micro pump which adds air twice as fast as before.
