Fun Basketball Games to Play on Holidays

Whether you are going away for a family trip or staying home during the summer holidays, there is always time for some basketball! The wonderful thing about this great game is that you can have fun anywhere, so long as you have a ball and a hoop.

If you want to keep up with your shooting skills without organising a formal game, we have some fun basketball games you can play with your family and friends. This will help you stay active during your break and enjoy some friendly competition. Let’s play some ball!

Around the World

The goal of this game is to ‘go around the world’ with consecutive shots around the court. This is done by starting with a layup, then a spot between a lay-up and the free throw line, then a free throw, then around the three-point line.

Depending on the skill level of each player, decide before the game whether you must all make each shot or if you have the choice to end your turn before making another shot and potentially missing it and then allow the next players to try.

Five in a Row

The object of Five in a Row is to move as far away as possible from the hoop. Begin around two metres away from the basket. You must make five shots in a row at that spot before you can move one step further from the basket. You continue moving one step farther from the basket with every five shots made. Sounds simple right? Let’s make it more of a challenge.

To make it a little more interesting have each player shoot their shots at the same time, then race to see how many can move back three times first.

H-O-R-S-E

In this game, each player takes turn shooting from anywhere they choose, until someone scores. When that happens, the following players need to try to make their shot from the exact same spot. If they miss the shot the original player made, then they get a letter. Once a player collects all letters to spell out the word horse, they are out of the game. This repeats until all the players but one runs out of letters, and is crowned the winner.

Make it more personal by picking any word you want. Use each other’s names or the name of your favourite basketball player to spell out!

Stay Active and Stay True to the Game

Get a ball, grab some friends and get out there as much as you can in the summer break!
