A Basketball Bonanza in Perth: The First Ever HoopsFest

The new NBL season arrived with a bang in Perth, as the first ever HoopsFest was launched across the 17th-22nd of September. In conjunction with the WNBL and the Under 18 Club Championships, the city of Perth was set alight by the stars of Australian basketball, who came to show fans why this sport is one of the most thrilling and exciting sports in the country.

Spalding was proud to play a huge part in HoopsFest, creating a unique basketball that was used across all three competitions throughout the week. Developed and designed exclusively for HoopsFest, the ball features a unique colour palette and showcases the official HoopsFest logo in a bright embossed print, as well as the logos of the NBL, WNBL and U18 Club Championships, helping highlight the three competitions that came together to celebrate the sport and culture of basketball.

With NBA legends Carmelo Anthony and Kenny “the Jet” Smith in attendance, the competition on the court rose to the occasion, while Spalding was proud to see the official HoopsFest ball in the hands of these superstars, as well as a plethora of other players and celebrities throughout the week.

As part of the HoopsFest activities, Spalding also set up a fun and exciting activation in the heart of the Perth CBD at the Fan Zone in Forrest Place. Spalding’s “guess how many basketballs in the cube” activation was hugely popular, with people constantly coming through putting their guesses in. With the prize of a Momentous EZ Assembly backboard system, a HoopsFest game ball, and 4 x tickets to an NBL game of the winner’s choosing, fans were trying their best to calculate the exact number of balls in the cube in order to win. The competition proved difficult enough, with no fans being able to guess the correct amount – the winner was one ball off.

Spalding is proud to support the continued growth of basketball in Australia across all levels, from local hoops to the big leagues, and HoopsFest was the perfect culmination of everything that the NBL, WNBL and Basketball Australia has to offer to the basketball community by celebrating the sport and its culture in Perth.
